Univormu's story

How did Univormu begin?

The Univormu story originally started in 2017 with women’s workwear for clean indoor work. Suitable options weren’t available, so I, Nora behind Univormu, decided “I’ll probably have to make them myself.” Nothing happens at the push of a button, but when you’re motivated and persistent, you can get far with determination. By staying open to possibilities and not trying to control things too much, they follow their own path. Univormu has traveled on this cloud of possibility from the beginning and continues to follow the same path.

Univormu is a one-woman business. I have a great need for creativity and am a “walking idea bank.” Within my own business, it’s wonderful when thoughts can fly like a butterfly, and I’ve found a network around me where all this ideation is possible. I have a group of skilled professionals around me that I’ve found as if by design. Not forgetting an important part – skilled sewing work, which is purchased as a service from a talented seamstress.

The Univormu idea is to look and feel good. Word of mouth is important and has taken us far. Thank you if you spread the word<3!

What is Univormu?

Univormu is a Finnish small business operating as an online store. The foundation of everything is product longevity, quality, finished craftsmanship, and durability. Sustainable development is one of the most important things behind all operations. The idea is to produce quality and simply stylish accessories, durable products, and workwear. With the pandemic, Univormu’s range began expanding from workwear. First came fitted face masks with filters. Then reusable bags. After this, Univormu expanded into leather accessories, which is now Univormu’s main product.

Leather Products

Primarily, ecologically produced reindeer leather is used, but occasionally
small batches of deer and sheep leather are also used. As a leather, reindeer leather is the most ecological and silkiest of leathers. It has been inspiring to make beautiful accessories from it and give the leathers a new life through that. Hair accessories are now a big part of Univormu. The basic idea with leather accessories is to utilize surplus and create a new life for it as everyday luxury. Univormu also utilizes small material batches when possible that are “unsuitable” for other large companies because they can’t use them for large-scale production. Small cutting scraps from hair accessories are donated to SooSoo handicrafts, which further processes the leathers into earrings in their own production.

Fabric Products

Workwear is made to order according to measurements, customized so that each piece of workwear can be made with exactly the right measurements for the need. We are all individuals, and so is our workwear. Finnish partners are used for almost everything; only workwear fabrics certified with Ökö-Tex Standard 100 are sourced from Portugal. Products are manufactured locally in Finland, including sewing and pattern making. Cutting waste is minimized. Only small quantities of reusable bags and pouches are kept in stock for immediate availability. There’s no point in burdening today’s world with products before they have a consumer, which is why inventory is kept as small as possible.
